Thunder Saloon Project History

I brought this XR4i with the intention of converting it to a V8 4x4 set up, it had already been converted from a 2.8 V6 MFi to 2.9 V6 EFi but had oil pressure problems so I got it really cheap.


Work began on the conversion, picked up a Rover V8 which i stripped and began adapting the Sierra 4x4 sump to fit the V8.
Work on making an adapter plate etc carried on but as I'll come to explain this project was soon to be shelved till a later date and another XR4i.


This came up for sale on Ebay, I've always loved the wide bodied Fords, I say wide bodied but the body kits are known as X Packs or Thunder Saloons and after a phone call to the seller its was mine
